Mini Grants offer an abbreviated application process and a less restrictive criteria than our traditional grants. Unlike traditional grants, Mini Grants are available at more frequent cycles throughout the school year. Maximum amount of a mini grant is $500.

Proposals are welcome from Suffield Public School personnel, including teachers, administrators or other school staff members, as well as students, individual Suffield citizens, or other organizations.

Graduates of Suffield High School who have achieved exceptional success, contributed to the welfare of others or been recognized for an individual outstanding accomplishment are worthy of consideration. In addition, an “Excellence in Education” award is simultaneously given to a retired educator who has taught for at least 10 years in the Suffield Public Schools and has had a profound impact on Suffield students.

We are seeking nominations for five alumni and one educator to be inducted in the spring of 2012. If you know of a Suffield High School graduate who you think should be included in the Hall of Honor or a teacher who has had a significant impact on your education, please let us know by visiting the Hall of Honor Nomination page.

An ad hoc committee of community members and SFES Board members make the selections from the many nominations that are received. An assembly will be held at the high school in the spring to present the awards.

The SFES grants committee reviewed a number of excellent grant proposals from teachers and administrators, as well as parent-teacher and community organizations.   Grants were approved based on their level of innovation, the number of students impacted, and their long term sustainability.  Funding of these grants resulted from the generosity of Suffield citizens and others who value the education of Suffield’s children.   The Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools raised the majority of the funds at the annual auction, but received other funding from personal donations (including United Way payroll deductions) and a donation by the Suffield Knights of Columbus that was targeted to special education.  Since the SFES began awarding education grants in 2002, grant awards have totaled $484,243.

]]> http://sfes.org/hello-world/feed 0 SFES Receives CTCEF Award http://sfes.org/sfes-awarded-at-ct-consortium-of-eductiaon-foundations http://sfes.org/sfes-awarded-at-ct-consortium-of-eductiaon-foundations#comments Sat, 07 May 2011 17:49:48 +0000 Admin http://sfes.cgwebhelp.com/?p=105 Chelen Kost accepts award for Suffield Foundation for Excellent SchoolsChelen Kost, president of the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools, and Barry Armata, past president, display the plaque that the SFES was awarded at the  Connecticut Consortium of Education Foundations’ annual October meeting  in Cromwell.  The award was for “creating outstanding educational opportunities within their local community.”    Thirty one of the 86 CTCEF members submitted proposals, so “to be recognized for our contribution to excellence in education in Suffield was quite an honor”, said Kost.

The award recognized the SFES’ commitment to science education in the Suffield Public Schools.
